How CBD Works in Our Body
In today’s blog, we are going to learn some biological science!
Our bodies all have an endocannabinoid system, which is what CBD reacts with when it is ingested. But what does this system do and how exactly does it work?
The Endocannabinoid system (ECS) keeps internal bodily functions stable and controls how we think, feel and react.
Once ingested, cannabinoids active the 5-HT1A serotonin receptor. This helps with anxiety, addiction, appetite, sleep, nausea and vomiting.
They also bind to TRPV1 receptors. This moderates pain, inflammation and body temperature.
CBD blocks the G protein receptor GPR55. This may decrease bone reabsorption and the spread of cancer cells.
It also activates peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPARs) which has been shown to produce anti-cancer effects and help with Alzheimer’s.
We will dive more in depth on how exactly this all works in upcoming blogs, but this is an overview of the endocannabinoid system so that you can understand why CBD works so well for all of these ailments!
