Guidelines have been released by the Arthritis Foundation for people who want to try CBD — the first such guidance on using the cannabis-derived ingredient from any major patient advocacy group.
Since becoming legal in 2018, CBD has exploded on the market with companies offering a multitude of products. Not yet regulated by the FDA, CBD products are plenty and easily accessible to any consumer.
However, because there is no governing body, the Arthritis Foundation has released some guidelines to protect consumers.
They stress the importance of doing your research on products as some are much better quality than others. Look for a company that offers a high-quality CBD extract and uses a third-party company to test the purity of their products.
Dr. Eric Westerman told NBC News his group is doing extensive testing on the product and agrees that oversight is needed to ensure safety and efficacy for all CBD products.
“I’m not concerned not so much about CBD,” said Westerman. “I’m way more concerned about potential contaminants.
